Weld Robotics Engineer
Key Achievements and Responsibilities: • Playing a key role within the production of car seats for the automotive industry; with overall responsibility for the weld facility area, this encompasses the set-up and commissioning of new equipment and machinery as well overseeing maintenance and end-to-end engineering projects within the weld department • Proactively controlling and monitoring the company weld integrity; programming the MIG/MAG and spot robotic welding cells with Panasonic and Motoman robots, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail • Ensuring production targets are consistently achieved across cost, quality, delivery and safety, through effective coordination with quality, production and maintenance teams whilst also promoting robust processes and analysing product changes • Developing and implementing robust future strategic improvements for the next models in terms of robotic welding and holding full responsibility for weld and tooling adjustments, ensuring all documentation is maintained regarding welding programmes and robotic maintenance • Achieving compliance through performing regular health and safety and quality checks • Led the project of replacing welding cells; in coordination with other Robotics Engineers, I have redesigned part of the tooling and created the weld programmes from scratch, this led to increased productivity with enhanced quality and reduced scrap by 15%
- S.C. RAAL 2013 - 2018
Head of Robotic Welding
• Provided key leadership and direction heading the Robotic Welding Department and leading a diverse team of 2 programmers and 15 operators; monitored and managed performance and consistently achieving departmental targets and KPI’s • Successfully managed the welding of aluminium brazed heat exchangers for use across various industrial applications and industries including; mining, agriculture, construction, railways, automotive, naval and aerospace • Accredited Basic Robot Programming Trainer; in charge of all training and development activities for operators • Liaised extensively with suppliers for purchase of materials and machines welding cells, building strong relationships whilst also demonstrating strong communication and negotiation skills to reduce costs to the business • Oversaw all offline and online programming for IGM and ABB industrial robots specialised for aluminium MIG welding • Developed and managed schedules of maintenance for all robotic systems, ensuring alignment to manufacturer specifications, this also involved coordinating with suppliers regarding parts and service issues • Provided key support within prototype projects; designing CAD-CAM in SolidWorks and coordinating with a cross-functional team • Reduced scrap by 20%, increased productivity by 50% and enhanced health and safety through installing a robotic welding cell and replacing 4 manual welders • Increased machine availability from 70 to 90% through training and restructuring shift patterns as well as redesigning jig system files to reduce downtime and times between changing models
